Introduction to Navigation
A short, informal course led by Yachtmaster IVOR KEATES to provide an introduction to small boat navigation and pilotage.
The aim of this "mini-course" is to provide an introduction to small boat navigation and pilotage. It is aimed at those who would like some idea of what's involved in navigating a small boat at sea, in reasonable conditions, perhaps before taking a RYA Day Skipper course. It will also be suitable for anybody who has done a course already but feels they would benefit from a refresher.
The main focus will be on Tides and Chartwork, with some reference to electronic aids where appropriate.
This will be a 1-day course and will be run on Saturday 16th November from 0900 to approximately 1630, at the club. If you have navigation instruments (ie plotter and dividers), please bring them with you. If not, don't worry as all the necessary equipment will be provided. All you need to bring is a notebook, a 2B pencil, a soft eraser and a pencil sharpener.
The course will be limited to 6 participants. If there is sufficient demand, it can be repeated as necessary.
N.B. It's important to note that this is not a RYA course. It is informal training only and is not intended to turn you into a competent, small-boat navigator. The course will not lead to any formal qualification or certificate.
